These are a few of our ancestors, in chronological order, most recent to most ancient.

My grandparents Charles Wadham Lyne (1875 - 1960) and Muriel Toplis Lyne (nee Fox 1894 - 1946) with baby Richard Wadham Lyne (1923 - 2001), my father.

My great-grandparents, Charles Lyne (1841 - 1922), and Caroline (nee Harrisson 1841 - 1928).

Benjamin Hart Lyne (1800 - 1844), my great-great-grandfather, solicitor and three times Mayor of Liskeard in Cornwall. He and his wife Elizabeth Hingston Lyne (nee Rawle 1806 - 1874) had nine children, of which only four survived to adulthood, one being born after his untimely death aged 43!

Stephens Lyne Stephens (a first cousin of Benjamin) said to be the wealthiest commoner in England, having been left a vast fortune by his father Charles Lyne (1764 - 1851), later Charles Lyne Stephens.

Great-great-great-grandfather Richard Lyne (1760 - 1834), who chose to be a "poor vicar" rather than a rich merchant like his brother Charles. He never appeared to regret his decision, and was highly regarded as a Latin scholar and author. His beloved wife Mary Arundell Lyne (nee James), died aged just 46 on the 20th June 1813. He spent the next eleven years of his life writing a massive treatise dedicated to her memory, entitled "The Departed Saint".

Richard's parents were John Lyne (1723 - 1791) and Jane (nee Mitchell, 1738 - 1794) his second wife who had thirteen children altogether. John also had two children by his first wife Amy (nee Tucker).

John's parents were Richard Lyne and Jane (nee Stephens, born 16th January 1694). They were married on the 2nd February 1720. Her father was Lewis Stephens, the Vicar of Menheniot in Cornwall, who is buried at Saltash, opposite the pulpit.

Richard's parents were John Lyne (1662 -1731) and Christian (nee Hamley). They were married at Menheniot on the 15th November 1689.

John's parents were John Lyne (born the 4th October 1631) and Joan (nee Moore). They were married at Liskeard on the 16th September 1658.

Joan's parents were John Moore and Mary (nee Wadham). This is the only known connection to the Cornish Wadham family from which Nicholas and Dorothy Wadham, the founders of Wadham College in Oxford, came. Wadham is still used as a middle name in the family for the latest generation of children, and will hopefully continue on to future generations of Lynes.
