How to get to Sapperton Tunnel - 3

About the Tunnel (1) - - Tunnel Trips (2)

The Eastern (Coates) Portal of Sapperton Tunnel is very near the Tunnel House Inn which was built to house, feed and refresh the tunnel workers. It's about four miles (six km.) east of Cirencester (Glos.) between the villages of Coates and Tarlton. Either village can be approached from the A419 between Stroud and Cirencester or the A433 between Tetbury and Cirencester.

The rough unmetalled 200 yd. drive up to the pub starts beside Tarlton Bridge which carries the road over the canal, and although the drive is mucky in the winter, it is solid. The grid reference is SO 966 006.
